Marton Tibor: Pattintott kőeszközök Mezőzomborról
78 RÓBERT PATAY TRACES OF THE BODROGKERESZTÚR CULTURE IN MEZŐZOMBOR In the June of 2000, an excavation was carried out in the still operating cemetery of the settlement called Mezőzombor under the supervision of Judit S. Koós. During the course of the excavating work, the graves of the Füzesabony Culture, neolithic graves, the traces of a settlement belonging to the Bükk Culture, and also the traces of a settlement belonging to the Bodrogkeresztúr Culture were unearthed. There were two large size pits of irregular shape found, which contained potsherds from the Copper Age. Among the findings, the salient vessel and pot forms of the culture were identified. These included the rim and shoulder shards of milk-jug shaped vessels, some of them even with handles, bits of a flowerpot shaped vessel, shards of tubular supports, several characteristic wart-ornaments, fishnet pattern shards and dotted-line frame fishnet pattern shards, and a number of stone implements. The shape and ornamentation of several potsherds remind us of the characteristics of the Early Copper Age Tiszapolgár Culture and its Kisrétpart Group. We also uncovered a piece of a copper chisel in one of the excavated objects. A symmetrical copper axe of the Felsőgalla type was discovered at the site as a sporadic find. The findings belong to the earliest phase of the culture, to Bodrogkeresztúr A horizont. PATAY RÓBERT ÁRPÁD MÚZEUM 2300 RÁCKEVE KOSSUTH U. 34.
