Jósa Miklós - Ulrich Attila: A németszőgyéni és bánházi Jósa család története (Régi magyar családok 3. Debrecen, 2005)
Summary
documents and sources of information ( law suits, sensus, tax lists, nobility registration rolls, birth and death certificates, mortgage letters, etc. most of which written in latin ) were digged up and read thorougly in order for us to be able to depict the living persons behind the names, or in some cases just to simply identify certain family members. Our work was not in vain, since we managed to make up for quite some deficiencies, sort out some discrepancies and myths, even add new members to the line, and eliminate or disconnect a few twigs from the branches of the family tree whose connection or level of relationship could not be verified. The latter happened mainly in case of the TransDanubian branch and their desendents living in the 16-17"' centuries. We however chose to mention some of these people who do not appear on the charts due to uncertain derivation, simply because their relationship to the family Jósa de Németszögyén is very likely or should not be ruled out. We have accepted a couple of the fundamental conceptions set by György Jósa, one of which was the lineal descend between the assumed extinct Jósa de Sawol and the Jósa de Németszögyén families. Despite not being able to find the linking person, we stongly belive uncle György was right in assuming the viability of the descend because we have found a couple of records in which Miklós Jósa de Németszögyén, the „vice-comes" of Szabolcs County was refered to by the noble name „de Sawol" approx. 150 years after the Jósa de Sawol line was believed extinct. From Antal Jósa, the one who was granted Németszogyeni nobility and armorial bearings (coat-of-arms) in 1583 the lineage directly leeds us to present day descendants. Sources of information become sufficient, in case of certain family members even abundant, from the 1630s on. Therefore we were fortunate enough to be able to depict personal traits, characters and a couple of significant events in the life of the family. The Golden Era lasted for approx. 100-150 years, and they dawned with Mihály Jósa working his way into the position and military ranking of Captain of Kalló. His son Miklós made it further up to the position of „vice-comes" Sheriff(?) of the County Szabolcs, and even became eligible for marrying baroness Elisabeth Nyáry de Bedegh.
