English Summary
Buda. The town-pictures, made known by Georg Hoefnagel (1542—1600) miniature painter and drawer of Flemish origin, were carved by the above mentioned Georg Hoefnagel's son named Jacab. One of the 22 illustrations related to Hungary is the following: The View of the Ruined Town of Esztergom, 1595. (fig. 4.). This is also a sheet of a book entitled „Civitates orbis terrarum". (Edited by Georg Braun. Cologne, 1572.). The impression made by Baltasar Caymox (17th century) represents István Bocskai, Prince of Transylvania. The German Christian Rugendas' (1708—1781) mezzotint: Birth in the Camp, 1702 (fig. 5.) was made on the basis of the painting of the wellknown painter Georg Philipp Rugendas the Elder. Its maker is an exceptionally talented representer of the dramatic moments of the war extended over half Europe. Karl August Schwerdgeburth's (1785—1878) impression is about Ferenc Kölcsey, the author of our national hymn. It is valuable also from iconographical point of view. Mányoki, Ádám (1673—1757) the well-known artist of Baroque paiting, obtained also the mastery of coppercarving in Holland in 1709 at the request of Ferenc Rákóczi II. the Transylvanian and Hungarian Prince. One of the results of his grand tour is a mezzotinto entitled Rákóczi 11. As a Military Leader (II. Rákóczi mint hadvezér) 1707. This can be seen in our exhibition. We have known only two copies of this drawing up till now. The other is the property of the Hungarian National Museum. On the dawing (1815) of the engraver Kiss, Sámuel (1781—1819) the contour of Debrecen can be seen. The foreign traditions of portraiture are brought together on Brocky, Károly's (1807—1855) romantic paintings. His coloured drawing is entitled: Female Head (fig. 8.). He settled down in England where he became wellknown after painting the portrait of Queen Victoria. Some of his paintigs are now in the collection of the British Museum. Also Zichy, Mihály (1827—1906), the world-famous graphic artist was obliged to live abroad, namely in Russia, where be became the courtartist of four tzars. His tempera-aquarelle is the following: Russian Archduchess (1861) (fig. 9.). The title of Than, Mór's (1828—1899) aquarelle is A Lowland Ride (Alföldi kocsizás). We finish up the brief exhibition of our graphical collection with Mednyánszky, László's (1852—1919) coloured drawing, entitled Landscape with a Lakelet (Tájkép tavacskával). Foreign and Hungarian fine arts in the 17th —19th centuries Western-European art is represented by a Flemish and a Spanish painting. The oil-painting (fig. 10.) entitled A Military Leader On Horseback (Lovas hadvezér) is by an unknown Flemish artist (17th c), and comes from a foreigen collection. In my opinion the paiting may be related to the paintings of one of Anthonis van Dyck's excellent pupils. The painting entitled Portrait of a Child (18th c.)
