Its form shows the characteristics of the Baroque style, and in its ornament classical motifs can be seen. The other large-sized piece of furniture is a writing-commode. We own some more pieces from this type of furniture, on the basis of which we can follow the changes and the development of this wardrobetype from the end of the 18th century up to the first half of the 19th century. There are some chairs on the first floor hich are joineries also from Debrecen from the middle of the 19th century. The European furniture-craft is represented by two pieces on the second floor. One of them is a large-sized double-door wardrobe, originating from the 17th century and shows all the characteristics of the German pieces of furniture in Baroque style. It is a monumental doubledoor piece, ornamented with ledges and columns, equipped with lathe-turned ball-egs, so as a whole it shows architectural structure. Besides the elaborate carvings it is full of rich intarsia depicting religious themes. The other is a litte cabinet-wardrobe from the Low Countries, which rep resents a furniture-type very popular all over Europe in the 17th —18th centuries. The wardrobe is full of drawers. The front-part of the drawers are carved and the whole stands on a high base with twisted legs. It is a characteristic piece of the Dutch furniture-craft in the 17th century. LIST OF FIGURES Fig. 1.
