Balázs Korompai Letters of Mihály Galgóczi „honvéd" artilleryman The paper produces a faithful transcription of the original letters held in the historical collection of the Déri Museum. Mihály Galgóczi, the author of the letters was a teacher in Szalonta. His parents, who were the recipients of the majority of his letters, lived in Margita. Galgóczi took part in more than 10 battles on the Transylvanian fighting fileds as an artilleryman. He fought at the siege of Szeben, in the battle of Piski as well as in Déva and Medgyes. In his letters he gives a detailed account of the fighting activities and events he experienced, together with news and stories that spread amongst the soldiers. Mihály Galgóczi wrote his thirteen letters to his parents and to his friend between the 24th of July 1848 and the 6 t h of June 1849.
