Természettudomány - Dudás Miklós: A barna kánya (Milvus migrans) fészkelő állományának lassú regressziója a Tiszántúlon a múlt század elejétől napjainkig

Miklós Dudás SLOW REGRESSION OF BLACK KITE (MILVUS MIGRANS) POPULATION OF THE PLAIN OVER THE RIVER TISZA FROM THE BEGINNING OF LAST CENTURY TO RECENT DAYS Some of the outstanding ornithologists pointed to decrease of nesting population of Black Kite in the first decades of last century. This unfavourable state goes on nowadays, also. Factors, which cause negative processes are not clearly determined. In this region (on the plain east of river Tisza, called „Tiszántúl") there were 58-60 breeding pairs known untill the beginning of 1980' years. By the millenium population declined to 22 pairs. There aren't better prospects of this species in the neighbouring countries of Carpathian Basin. It's high time to start study on the causes of Black Kite's regression. It is an urgent need to develop a special program of protection of this species and we must apply it all around the country. It seems to be the most important task to get more and more information about migrating-wintering birds. What are the effects on birds and are we able to influence them? All the hurt kites which can not fly again but capable of propagation have to be collected to repatriation centers of national parks and we should try to make them breed. Black Kite is a wellbreeder bird even in volier, besides non-natural circumstances. From the Raptor Repatriation Center of Hortobágy National Park 12 juveniles have been released to the wild in the last 7 years. All of the chicks belonged to one nesting pair. We can hope that hungarian avifauna will not loose another beautiful species again shortly.
