Régészet, Ókortudomány - Sz. Máthé Márta: On the Chronology of the Copper-Age (Early Copper Age Cemetery in Hajdúszoboszló)

Márta Sz. Máthé ON THE CHRONOLOGY OF THE COPPER AGE (Early Copper Age Cemetery in Hajdúszoboszló) In the summer of 1971, on the site of the railway station at Hajdúszoboszló, a grave containing a skeleton was found. In the course of the excavation following notification we uncovered a grave with furniture characteristic of Tiszapolgár culture, another grave with no furniture at all, and two refuse pits containing pottery from Tiszapolgár. On this very site, in 1928, Zoltai and Sőregi had uncovered a twelve-grave section of a Copper Age Cemetery with furniture resembling Bodrogkeresztúr culture. Traces of settlement were also found. By comparing the old and new finds we tried to decide whether the two uncovered sections belonged to the same cemetery ,and wheter the burial-grounds were used in both the early and the middle periods of the Copper Age. We claim that they were used in both periods. As to the traces of settlement, we have concluded that in the early period of the Copper Age the population did not settle down, and in the course of permanent migration old burial-grounds were revisited. 148
