large settlements of the Herpaly group. From the Herpaly hill a white-incrusted sherd came to light. Such pieces are characteristic to the South-Transdanubian civilization and thus its occurrence is an indication to the contact of the Gyulavarsánd civilization and that of the western parts of the country. The contacts with Transylvania has been well known. It may be mentioned that protected settlements were not needed at smaller affluents, at the Kalló for example, and consequently, similarly to the Neolithics, they are not to be found there. The Late Bronze Age is represented, among others, with the finds that have come to light at Hajdúbagos. The main stock of this period has come from urn graves. It is in close contact with tbe material of the northern part of the country (Piliny civilization). It is partly mixed with the material of the preceeding age, the Gyulavarsánd group. A considerable number of settlements belonging to the same cercle is known to us as well though not yet dug up. Finds of the period between the Bronze Age and the Scythian-Celtic era, i. e. those of the Early Iron Age are scarcely known to us in the county in lack of excavations. To be sure, the inhumation of corpses appears again as running parallel to the cremation. For the time being, however, nothing can be said for certain about any question (including the question of the origin) of this era. 14
