reality and used to be. E.g now the main points of view are the increase of living standard, the improvement of living and environmental conditions. Sándor Győrffy asked how the National Plan of Development will work as the raise of own risk may lay giant burdens on the budget. The system of supports in small regions could, however, set a good example. Flóriaán Kováts, the secretary of the Magtár (Granary) Foundation briefly commemorated the members of the Hungarian Academy of Art participating in the movement of symposia, then introduced the General Document Line Joint Stock Company, which bought a granary at Pannonhalma in order to found and operate a digital sympsoium of artists and would like to contact with artists’ symposia as well as expects partners, supporters and co-operators to get in touch with them so as to set up an art centre. The professional aim of the Foundation is to help create and collect works of art connected with their own activity, furthermore that the artists’ symposium of Pannonhalma should be a residence of master courses and participate in education. They want to start their operation in 2004 and also wish to deal with public intellectual questions so as to involve in co-operation in various fields of speiritual life those not particularly interested in contemporary art. The sculptor Collin Foster, professor of the Master School of Pécs, introduced the artists’ symposia of different types he had met as a sculptor on the international scene. These are: well-paid symposia, scultural symposia of Italian type, educational symposia, poor symposia of art, symposia combined with exotic journeys and symposia offering good programmes. He described how they work and what result is to be expected from the participants. He pointed out that the latter should be operated in Hungary and connected with the well-paid symposia, which could also be linked to the National Department of Regional Development. (After the text of the report, we publish his lecture in full.) József Cserny called attention to the fact that artists’ symposia must get in the intellectual elite. It is only achievable in this way that they can become partners of the economic elite. Ágnes Péter announced that the new homepage of Hungarian symposia - www.artportal.hu - can already be used although it is being developed. She asked all the symposia for data and illustrations in order to expand it. She ceremonially announced that this year it was János Probstner, the head of the Ceramic Studio of Kecskemét, who had won the prize of the Hungarian Symposion Foundation on the basis of an unanimous decision. The prize was made by the sculptor Tibor Budahelyi and received by Emese Kormos because of János Probstner’s absence. 322
