Országos Szimpózium Találkozó, Győr

The president of the association Viktor Pósa introduced the Accociation of Young Designers Kocka („Cube”), their aims, members, plans and the results of their common work so far. Besides mounting common exhibitions, professional presentations, the association considers the direct contact with education to be of high priority, within which they also show activities of all kinds themselves, among the young ones and school-age children. It was the designer Ibolya Váray who gave an account of this in more detail. Ágnes Haász, the president of the Association of Hungarian Electrographic Artists introduced the new national associaition of art, which had organized atrists’ symposia at Gyermely three times. She spoke about the insufficiency of the operational conditions, all those difficulties that hinder the artists using computers in creating together like at a symposium. She spoke about the association’s exhibitions and publications until now and about their plans. Károly Hantos, the deputy rector of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts emphasized the bridgelike role of the movement of symposia in tertiary education of art for the symposium remained the only area of preservation of the master-pupil relation. The present radical change of the educational system leads in direction of conceptual-theoretical training instead of practical education, furthermore it becomes mass education, so there is no way of tailored training, establishing presonal contacts. The form of lectures does not allow reflections of the material of education, students’ questions either. On the other hand, the symposium is of inspiring, reviving character, and the method of symposia is the best means to develop the conditions of a behaviour helping with the resusciation of thoughts. The development, survival of the movement of symposia is also necessary because the practice of teaching closed in a single building, preferred to life is untenable, the up-to-dateness of the syllabus is therefore limited. It is the symposia that can afford possibility of catching up with intellectual innovations. This conclusion had been reached all over the world, e.g. this had been the main topic at a conference in Brussels. The method of symposia helps the development of abilities, it is an abilitiy training, it will therefore be more important than ever in the near future. The EU programmes prefer studying all the life, but today this is unaccomplishable in the framework of school, greater stress must be laid on self-education. The artists’ symposia must be important areas of self-education system, where several generations can think and work together, there is greater chance of establishment of an intellectual community. The artists’symposia must be better organized and more regular and joining in the work there must be included in the plans of the university. For tertiary education of art, the acceleration of research and theoretical elaboration would be important, the movement of artists’ symposia can be much help. The artists’ symposia can be problem-centred, venues of both collection and transmission 318
