WHAT HAPPENED TO FLÓRIS RÓMER’S NATURE HISTORICAL PRIVATE COLLECTION?

Based on the evidence of the scientific literature and archival sources it is evident that Römer had a nature historical private collection that consisted of the material of his decade-long nature historical collecting work, which had started in the second half of the 1850's, including the material of his collecting journeys mentioned in his Bakony travelogue. He presented this collection to Imperial and Catholic Arch- Grammar School of Pest where he was the head teacher and a teacher of natural history between 1861 and 1866. The presently available sources do not provide information for a successful reconstruction of the material of this collection, the surviving pieces of which after 80 years were destroyed during the battle for Budapest in the Second World War.
