Csécs Teréz: Rómer Flóris 1867-es párizsi világkiállítási naplója
CSECS TEREZ RÖMER FLÓRIS 1867-ES PÁRIZSI VILÁGKIÁLLÍTÁSI NAPLÓJA FLÓRIS RÖMER S DIARY OF THE WORLD EXPOSITION OF PARIS IN 1867 Flóris Römer stayed in Paris between March and November 1867 as the custodian of the archaeological exhibition of the Hungarian segment of the World Exposition. Meanwhile, he took part in the Paleo-archaeological and Anthropologic Congress (Congres international d’anthropologie et d’archéologie préhistoriques) where he also spoke. He prepared a catalogue of the Hungarian exposition material, visited museums and libraries, carried out researches concerning Hungary, served as an exhibition guide and continuously enlarged the exhibition. He also led an intensive social life meeting with archaeologists and members of the Hungarian intelligentsia living in exile. The most valuable fruit of his 9 month stay in Paris was the fact that he made the foreign public acquainted with Hungary, the Hungarian archaeology and himself. He kept a diary during his stay, which consists of the “book of visitors” of the exhibition from the one side and his personal daily notes from the other. The brief notes hint to tremendous work, enormous network of connections and provide a lot of background information. The Paris Diary is kept at the Manuscript Archives of the National Széchenyi Library in Budapest. This publication presents Rómes’s daily records. 391
