RECORDS OF EBENHÖCH FERENC A PREBEND OF GYŐR ON HIS JOURNEYS

Ebenhöch Xavéri Ferenc (1821-1889) the parson of Koroncó and later a prebend of Győr was a colourful personality in Győr in the 19th century. In addition to his ecclesiastic career he had done considerable work as a collector, historian and organiser in the Diaconal Archive where his bequest can also be found today. He kept a diary, but it has not survived or has not been found yet. However, based on his diary he made an extract focusing on his journeys. This document is a subjective summary of the everyday life of a versatile ecclesiastic man revealing each stage of his career, his far-flung system of connections, his pleasures and interests in archaeology, history and art. The extract also displays his everyday problems while providing minute data about the local history of Győr and its environs. These factors collectively lend the real value of Ebenhöch’s diary extract which is an important source of the character and life of an interesting personality.
