CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SPATIAL STRUCTURE OF THE PEASANT TRADE OF BORSOD COUNTY AND THE SPATIAL RELATIONS OF THE PEOPLE OF BÜKKALJA This paper presents contributions to the socio-geographical and ethnographical aspects of the spatial-economical and spatial structure of the person feted: Barsi Ernő’s home country: the Biikkalja Region, i.e. the historical in North-Eastern Hungary and discusses some general features of the spatial changes of the spatial-economical relations, represents a characteristic geographical and cultural bridge between the Hungarian Plain (Alföld) and the northern mountains. The settlement of Biikkalja played a similar intermediate role between the and the floodplain of the River Tisza in in the period of the traditional peasant culture. The primary economic contacts played an intermediary role in the social and cultural field resulting in a kind of symbiotic relation between the people of the two regions of different local conditions. While the settlement of the stream valleys of Biikkalja running to the direction of the Hungarian Plain held sparse contacts with each other, they fostered vivid economic relations with the villages of the Plain and this fact had consequential effects to their own way of existence and culture. This study offers a historical-ethnographical sketch of this contact structure which always had a changing actual content. Gyula Viga 165
