TANULMÁNYOK - KÖZLEMÉNYEK ARRABONA 37.1999. The top part of the holes were ruined by mechanical humus adding and several obejcts were destroyed by digging in other eras. In 17 obejcts there have not been any significant finding but their shape and their typical light grey colour (which is a mixture of loess and humus) definitely refers to the Copper Age. We collected 387 pieces of pottery and others but only 130 would be evaluated. Katalin T. Bíró made the analysis of the stone implements. The number of animal remains was quite insignificant. The holes appeared as light grey, difficultly noticable, quite regular circle-shaped patches. Mosty their lower third part could be documented. There were a couple of beehive-shaped storage pits in which the darker layers of organic matter was clearly visible (plate 27). Three larger patches had no particular depths, however, their filling and the mud-flakes on their top suggested that those could be the remains of some smaller structures.(obj 665,667,764, plate 29). In the finding some of the ceramic fragments are from the Balaton-Lasinja culture of Copper age. Frequentally they have typical cilindric or coniform neck, usually they are becoming narrower towards the bottom part (tablesl,2,3,4,). We also have fragments of pots with tubular support (plates 14,21;l-2). Among the cooking and storing pottery there are some with outleaning edges and curved "barrell"shapes (plate 9,1-3, plate 10;l-3, and plate 11), some amphores (plate 8;49), some spots with starp handles (plate 6;4-6) and with plastic wart-ornaments (plates 7,8;3, plate 11). We found several fragments of thin-walled cups and small, big-bellied mugs and among them there is one almost intact piece with wart-ornaments looking like lentils (plate 15;3). Jugs are also the main types of the potterey found in the Balaton-Lasinja culture and among lots of fragments (plate 6,1-2) there are two quite complete ones with the same form but different size (plate 15;l-2). The coniform jugs with curved, outleaning edge and long neck has a black, glazed surface. Usually fluting ornaments are observed on the pottery of the Balaton-Lasinja culture, however, there was not any of that on the findings of our territory. On the other hand a peculiarly thin-walled, black vase was found with a curled belly which clearly has a close relation to the Ludanice culture (Lichardus-Vladár 1964. Plate 50:15,17).The stone material of the finding mainly consists of fragments of abrasive stones made of sandstone. There are also some pieces of grinding stones, a piece of a basalt hatchet, flint-stone blades and nucleus remains. The material of findings uncovered in the area of Ménfőcsanak shopping centre, belongs to the Balaton-Lasinja culture, Copper Age, nevertheless a couple of ceramic shapes such as the bell shaped tubular support, the vase, show the effect of the Ludanice culture from the South-West of Slovakia. There have been several large excavations in the North-West of Transdanubia in the last decade with more findings from the Copper Age which is helpful in the analysing processes and the interpretation of the crossing cultural issues. 35
