Summary

DOMINKOVITS Péter: A report on the study of guild privileges in Sopron county (1761) Issuing guild privileges was becoming more and more popular from the middle 16 hundreds till the first part of the 18 hundreds. Among the issuers not only the magistrates of the free royal cities could be found but also some secular or religious landlords, or even the ruler, the king. According to the examination of guild handcraft the first part of the 1 8 hundreds was characterized by the renewal of the guild system. This tendency could even be found in the (more) industrialized countries. The rising consumer need in previous guild centers, the division of local handcraftsmen resulted a higher number of guilds and the guild system was spreading towards the less popular areas of the county. In connection to this tendency an other process started. Both the noble class and the government stood up against guild monopolies and disorder found in guild operation (Act LXXIX from 1715; LXXIV, 1723; X, 1729). In 1730 the council of governor started to review the privilege letters of every guild in the county. One important factor of the accomplishing governmental control was the act of Maria Theresa in 1761,. which ordered each guild to obtain new royal privileges or to renew the old ones. The act of 1 761 also ordered to collect the privileges of exisitng guilds in the area of local governmental authorities and to appeal them to the central government. Presumably the undated Latin report which is an almost complete, extracted collection of guild privileges in Sopron county between 1566 and 1 748 is also a result of this regional work. The study would like to call the attention of further researches to this source. It was the name of the guild, the date of issuing the privileges, the name of the issuer, and some details of ratifying the privileges - such as the personality of the ratifier and the date of the ratification - which were put into a chart to refer to the listed guilds according to place. The dates were identified with the help of the data of guild privileges of the Hungarian Guild Register in Sopron County. As a satisfying result it can be stated that the register is not only a rarely used document of the history of guild handcraft in Sopron county and - in consideration of the type of source - of the contemporary Hungary, but the stated privileges also refer to the date of the registered but undated research material and as a result of this they provide new information and show unknown privileges. ASKERCZ Éva: Characteristics of furniture industry and house decoration in Sopron in the 1 7th and 18th century Guild regulations of Sopron are known from 1 579. There were only 5 craftsmen and 3 apprentices in town at that time. In 1674 there were 8 masters and 18 bachelors, in 1 769 10, in 1 784 1 5 craftsmen worked with apprentices whose number is not known. In 1674 joiners in Sopron got the right to prepare and use a bachelor-case. Between 1674 and 1730 804 bachelors were registered in the bachelor's book. 531 of them were foreigners, 165 were Hungarian and 108 were from unknown origin. The number of joiners showed the importance of joinery. The several inventories preserved in Sopron - mainly inventories of estate and furnitures refer to a flourishing furniture industry. Archival resources and historic monument researches made it effecARRABONA KgR] 36/1-2.
