Rábaköz and 2.2 % among all Hungarians examined. The types characteristic of ancient Germanic people (Northern and half of the Cromagnoid) amounts up in the Rábaköz to only 0.25 %, among the Hungarians to 0.4 %. From non-oriental types, it is the Dinah veriety of the Balkan which occurs most frequently among present-day Hungarians (3.4 %) József Rékási Bird-species in the Szigetköz territory 1 79 specimens of 57 bird-species were collected from 35 localities in north-western Transdanubia during the years 1970-74, especially in the autumn-winter period (60.89%). Nowadays most of these species are under protection. Comparisons made between the present nourishment-base and the conditions which prevailed 20 years ago demonstrate hat especially in the Szigetköz territory, living-space and nourishment resources diminished. 1 1 7 nourishment components could be identified: 28 vegetables /N/ (23.94%) and 89 animals /A/ (76.06%). In the formula presented in the article, the numerator denotes the number of cases, the denominator gives the number of consumed specimens. When this number was uncertain, we signed it with X. Our data proved how important a role birds play in killing insects and in reducing the gradation of rodents. The consumption of cultivated plants is insignificant; the birds' nourishment was dominated by weeds. Tibor Almási The Exhibitions of the Győr Society of Fine and Applied Arts The Győr Society of Fine and Applied Arts was one of the associations which exerted a significant influence on the intellectual athmosphere of the town. Almost unmatched in the whole of Hungary, it endured for almost four decades, playing a sometimes-positive, sometimes-negative role in the cultural life of Győr. Between both World Wars, and for some years later, it remained the driving force of artistic life in Győr. The most important achievement of the Győr-Society of Fine and Applied Arts was to organize yearly exhibitions of the works of artists living in Győr. At the same time they put emphasis on displaying works of artists living in the other parts of the country. This article deals with the organizatorial framework within which the Győr Society of Fine and Applied Arts arranged and mounted its exhibitions, as well as with the most important stages of this activity and the most outstanding programs of the society.
