S. Lackovits Emőke: A „szentsarok” a Fertő-menti magyar parasztszobában
The same image that is created in church could be created, by adopting a certain form of arrangement. By studying the concept of the sacred area we can trace both the history of the cult of saints, and a change of kinds of representation, in each era. Moreover, differences can be demonstrated in families and social strata. The most common objects studied from the consecrated place include the statue of Mary of Zell and the Madonna of Hora Svata, both carved in wood. Then there is the guilded plaster cast of Golgotha under a bell glass, the crucifix, the statues of Saint Joseph and Saint Anthony of Padua, the hearts of Jesus and Mary, the Holy Family, the Guardian Angels and the large icons of Saint Ann, Saint George, Saint Margaret and Saint Elisabeth. The flourishing religions life at the beginning of the 18 th century was greatly superceded by the anti-religious atmosphere of the 1950's and 60's. Because of rearrangement of houses, the building of new houses, their new furnishing and layout and a general lack of concern for religion, the sacred areas lost their function, while places where representations of saints used to hang became more frequently occupied by portraits or pictures of family members.
