shaped. The triangular tympanum contains either Medusa's head among birds and snakes, or an eagle with extended wings (no. 31), or an amphora (no. 22). The majority of the second and third century material is made up of altars or votive reliefs devoted to Silvanus, Nemesis or Mithras, respectively. Among the works of grave plastics one may mention a lintel of a grave altar (no. 23), a corner pillar of a graveyard (no. 26), the steles from Sopron (Mayday Square), from Müllendorf (nos 46, 47) and from Steinberg (no. 31). Tombstone no. 15, derived probably from Győr, is a Late Roman object. As far no ornamented sarcophagus has beeen found in the area of the one-time Sopron County. D. Gabler m
