Archaeological applications. Although, emphasis was laid in this paper upon the complementary role of animal keeping and hunting in the subsistence strategies carried out at this settlement, it should be regarded as nothing more than a hypothesis to be tested by intuitive and perhaps quantitative analysis of the remaining data which is "purely" archaeological in nature. These may include: 1. The study of chronologically diagnostic sherds in each feature by, for example, plotting their frequencies against the three sets of factor scores, as is done with principal component analysis of regression (Bartosiewicz 1984). 2. The analysis of spatial distribution using topographic co-ordinates in order to identify possible functional concentrations of features assigned to the three groups. 3. Mapping chronological shifts in site occupation and/or substistence strategies by synthesising the results from the two previous studies. One of these changes alternatively may have been responsible for the patterns revealed in this data set through the calculations. Such a complete evaluation should help decide whether or not study of these animal remains contributes to the chronological seriation or merely offers a functional classification of the excavated features.
