___ 446 RESUME 1921 The first book on Csók is written by Béla Lázár and published by the Ernst Museum as the first volume of its art-monograph series. He has a more extensive exhibition in the Ernst Museum. His works appear in Hungarian exhibitions in Amsterdam andThe Hague. He moves to his studio in the Strawberry Gardens. 1922 His works (including Two Idols) are shown in Hungarian exhibitions in Stockholm and Helsinki. He displays two of his Züzü pictures in the 13th Venice Biennale. In the summer he works in the artists' colony in Pécs. He takes part in the first exhibition of the Pál Szinyei Merse Society with some still-lives of the Chinese theme. > Cattle Ramp in Aliga (cat. 122) 1923 He is appointed to a full professorship at the College of Fine Arts. He serves as Rector of the College from 1923 to 1925. > Portrait of Vera Réthi (cat. 85) 1924 He participates in the 14th Venice Biennale, where Two Idols is dis­played. > Petőfi in Café Pilvax (cat. 130) 1925 His 60th birthday is celebrated by the media and the artistic public life. He introduces 30 of his latest pieces in the Ernst Museum. He is elected a member of the executive committee in the New Society of Artists (NSA, in Hungarian "KÚT"). Judah's Ring is displayed at the second exhibition of the society. The police seize it from Ernő Fränkel's gallery, along with Susanna, on grounds of obscenity. Vam­pires receives first prize in the Art Gallery's nude exhibition. > Venus with Veil (cat. 10); Erzsébet Báthory, variation (cat. 14); Er­zsébet Báthory, head-study (cat. 16); Honi soit qui mal y pense [Evil be to him who evil thinks] (cat. 35); "I believe in the Resurrection of Hungary" (cat. 84) 1926 In January the International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers elects Csók an honorary member of the society after the ex­hibition of the Szinyei Merse Society in London and Bradford. In Feb­ruary he displays '7 believe in the Resurrection of Hungary" framed with baroque sculptures of angels in the Art Gallery. He proposes a toast at the dinner of the Szinyei Merse Society. He travels to Munich and Paris. He leads the artist colony of the College of Fine Arts in Vác. His works are exhibited in Dresden, Pittsburgh, Brussels, and Hungary. He receives the Belgian Order of Leopold Officer's cross from the King of Belgium. Simon Kemény praises his painting in a long article with numerous reproductions on the pages of Magyar Művészet. 1927 Csók resigns from the New Society of Artists when he is elected an honorary member of the New Artists'Association (NAA, in Hungar­ian "UME"). He presents Lord Rothermere with a version of "I believe in the Resurrection of Hungary". He gives a speech at the funeral of József Rippl-Rónai. 1928 A more extensive collection of his works opens in the Ernst Mu­seum. He takes a cure of hydrotherapy with his wife and daughter in Balatonfüred. UME exhibits two of his pictures in the Künstler­bund Hagen in Vienna and he is elected a member of the associa­tion. He participates in the International Nude Exhibition in Vienna. His works are part of the Hungarian exhibitions in Stockholm, Gothenberg, and Rome. Two Idols, which was exhibited in the 14th Venice Biennale (1924), is purchased by the Italian state for the Gallery ofVenice. He is represented by six pictures in the new New Hungarian Gallery organized by Elek Petrovics. On October 13 his wife, Mrs. István Csók, née Julianna Nagy, passes away. > Judah's Ring, draft (cat. 25); Judah's Ring (cat. 26) 1929 He visits Florence with his daughter to see his self-portrait in the Uffizi. He spends a short time in Paris, and later in Balatonfüred. In July he starts working in Aliga. His works are part of the Hungarian exhibitions in Nuremberg, Geneva, and Genoa. He wins a gold medal in Genoa, probably with one of the versions of Susanna. > Still-life with Flowers (cat. 95); Rolling Fog (Foggy Landscape of Lake Balaton, cat. 118); Lake Balaton (cat. 119); Clouds at Balatonaliga (cat. 125) 1930 A large collection of his works opens in the Ernst Museum in Jan­uary. As a mark of respect for having been the president of the Pál Szinyei Merse Society for 10 years, a medal is forged for him by Füiöp Ö. Beck. He participates in the 17th Venice Biennale. > Lake Balaton (cat. 117); Rainbow above Lake Balaton (cat. 123) 1931 He is elected an honorary member of the Munkácsy Guild. > Bathers in Lake Balaton (cat. 115); Balatonaliga (cat. 116) 1932 The lithographic adaptation of the twelve pictures of the Züzü-cycle is published with a preface by Elek Petrovics (cat. 66, 69-70, 72, 74, 76, 79-81,83). He participates in the Hungarian representative ex­hibitions in Rome with a more extended collection in February. He and his colleague, János Vaszary, are dismissed from the college under oppressive conditions and without a pension. His work, Su­sanna, is awarded the Greguss Medal by the Kisfaludy Society.
