Summary: Béla Liebmann was bom on the 23rd of June, 1899 in Timisoara as the third child ofhis family. He became an apprentice optician and medical techni­cian in his home town, he reached apprenticeship, after which the owner entrusted him with the po­sition of manager. He served as a news anchor in the First World War. He created his first recording in 1919. After living in Budapest for a short period, he settled down in Szeged. He enjoyed taking photos of Szeged’s points of interests (Oskola Street, paprika market etc.) He also took recordings of celebrities living at, or visiting Szeged (Immánuel Löw, Albert Szent-Györgyi, Mascagni, Imre Kálmán, Ferenc Lehár, Jenő Rejtő, Ferenc Puskás, László Pap etc.) From the beginning of 1945 he was the photo­graphic chronicler of the town’s renewed social life. (Rákosi, Szakasits, Rajk, Sándor Zöld, Ortutay etc.) His best photos have even reached foreign countries (Lucerne, Bordeaux, Moscow).
