EMBROIDERER FROM AUSTRIA Maria Theresa Chasuble Set, before 1780 (dalmatic, stole, manipulus, palla, bursa, chalice cover, shoal) Silk with golden strip embroidery, 89 x 100 cm. The Champaign coloured chasuble set was bestowed by Maria Theresa. The cloak still under reconstruction were embroidered by maids of honour. Originally, the Queen did not intend to give the valuable ornament to the town of Szeged but to the provost of Jászó. The treasures were relocated to Szeged during the reign of Joseph II, son of the devout Maria Theresa, in times of raging anti-Church pursuit. It is one of the greatest treasures to be found in the Szeged- Alsóváros Franciscan monastery. At the bottom, Saint Joseph is depicted kneeling. In the upper part, the figure of Virgin Mary, above Her the Lord and the pigeon symbolising the Holy Spirit is depicted in the shape of a heart.
