The “new” River Wall of Szeged is even today determining the protection as well as the image of the city. After 25 years our task is to do the necessary reconstruction works and the improvement of the look of the main street (rebuilding of the Rondella, the restoring of the Flood monument).

The establishment of the protection system that protects the lowest parts of Hungary - in the domestic sense with the highest and longest-sectioned dikes and with

the river wall of Szeged - on the same security level is a basic task. Therefore the hightening and strengthening works on the dikes that started at the weakest, height-defective parts of the protection system, on the left bank of the Tisza under Szeged are of great importance. It is especially true at a time, when we know the floods that passed in 2000, in case of a flood runoff of 70 would have culminated at Szeged above 10 meters.
