landowners, called „kuláks". Members of the co-operatives were from the agrarian population who did not own land. They did not get any money for their work but crops which they shared at the end of the year. Because of the low standard and unsuccess of their farming, those co-operatives were not attractive for individual farmers. The large agricultural corners were established by the farmers' co-operative movement which was urged in 1960. Later 3 larger co-operatives worked in Csongrád by the union of the smaller ones: Red Star (Vörös Csillag) Petőfi, and Kossuth at Bokros. By the second half of the 1960's the well managed co-operatives became strong. Since 1990 due to the political changes we have been witnesses to the disintegration of co-operatives and the revival of private farms. On the basis of tradition a Farmer's Association was established on 22 January 1993 in Csongrád to help the latter ones.
