Néprajz–Etnológia - Terendi Viktória: „Két karácsony közt” Ünnepi alkalmak a vásárhelyi

TERENDI VIKTÓRIA Két karácsony közt" „Between two Christmases" Festive occasions in the Makó family's visual memory The study seeks the intersections of the triple axis of celebrations, memory, and visuality through an example of a family history narrative. Since 1750, the family photograph collection of a true-born farmer family in Hódmezővásárhely has consisted of family photographs of various subjects from the end of the 1800s to the present, which map out the patterns of family life in a particular era as a mosaic and reveal their changes. However, in the family history chronology outlined by the photographs, larger caesuras can be observed, which shortage is due to randomness or photography habits. The storyline of family history, in many cases, goes hand in hand with the photographs, but in some places it de-focuses from the story created by the images. Narration mostly fills in the gaps between images, but at other times, the details of the images complement the obscure memories. The story of a lifetime/family history told by the oldest member of the family highlights some of the topics over the others, which are repeated several times with different details. These nodes also have photographs connected to them, but they do not always portray the central topic, just the person, the scene, or the era, to which the accentuated stories are linked by association. Looking at the background of the images presented in the analysis and the depths of the stories, it becomes apparent that the nodes condensing memories are connected by the holidays. 497
