The 21st-century use of protected monument farmhouses in Mako

This study aims to present and interpret the first partial results of a recent research on the use and the 21st century changes in the Makó farmhouses. The research was launched by the József Attila Museum in the autumn of 2015. 4s a first step, I examine the current lifestyles in presently inhabited farmhouses under local protection in Makó. My question was: "How does a late 19th century or an early 20th century farmhouse meet present day demands?" The way of life has changed considerably — involving the function change of residential spaces and the need to develop new spaces (e.g. children’s room, living room, bathroom, etc.), which were unknown in the former peasant societies. How is all this implemented in a residential house, the rebuilding of which is regulated by strict decrees? In the museum’s yearbook I intend to publish the most illustrative case studies and the summary of data collected so far.
