TÓTH FERENC Szirbik Miklós református prédikátor, városunk első történetírója Miklós Szirbik Calvinist preacher, the first historian of our town Miklós Szirbik (Makó, 1781 - Makó, 1853) studied theology first in Debrecen, then at the University of Goettingen. He served as a pastor in Doboz, when he was invited to Makó where he served the community for 36 years since 1817. He placed the firm foundation of the intellectual and financial management of the Reformed Congrega­tion. Also, he processed the church archives. In 1836 he completed his work titled "The Description of the Town of Makó and the Reformata Ecclesia involved in it". Miklós Szirbik was known by his contemporaries as an erudite, modest man of few words. As Kálmán Eperjessy wrote about him: "He wished to live only for his hometown, and never did he want to leave it. Neither for more material benefit nor for a higher po­sition". 31
