A Móra Ferenc Múzeum Évkönyve: Studia Naturalia 5. (Szeged, 2009)
Summary
Mammals (Mammalia) Among the mammals the lesser mole rat (Spalax 1. leucodon) has the biggest value and it is highly protected. Its population near the Körös-ér is not well-known even among specialists. On the basis of the survey conducted in the middle of the 1990's it can be claimed that their whole habitat is bigger than is was thought before. Along the Kőrös-ér, starting from the Földi forest, then heading west intermittently up to Rívó of Ásotthalom the typical diggings of these animals were found. About the botanical and zoological survey of the region Quite a few publications were issued about this region although neither the flora, nor the fauna were researched up to a sufficient extent. Most of the publications consist of references, but there are monographs as well. With the help of the bibliography and the background information on hand there was an attempt to sketch the region's research from the beginning up to now. The different bibliographies were first listed by their topics (floristic and faunistic information), then the units developed this way were grouped by the settlements. The descriptions of the regions (Appendix No. 1) The descriptions of the regions were made on the basis of uniform points of views and they consist of the following headwords: the level of protection in the region, the elevation of the region, the short description of the region, the plant communities of the region, the protected and highly protected plants and beetles of the region. The total number of the protected and highly protected species is given about each of the regions. Where dividing into groups of communities could lead to more useful information, this grouping was also done. The total numbers of the two different grouping are not necessarily the same because some plant species can be found in more communities (and in more habitats). The given parameters referring to the plant and beetle species are about only this certain region. The summary of the protected plants in the region (Appendix No. 2) The protected and highly protected plant species were examined in the neighbourhood of the Kőrös-ér (Ásotthalom, Kelebia, Mórahalom and Ottömös), and also in those areas which were recommended for protection, and furthermore in the Ásotthalomn meadow Nature Reserve and in the Kiss Ferenc Memorial
