THE ANIMAL REMAINS László BARTOSIEWICZ Animal remains were found in three burials at this partially recovered Avar Period cemetery. Grave 3 contained the complete skeleton of a 5-7 years old stallion of 139 cm withers height and medium slender legs (Fig. 1). The remains of the bridle, the right stirrup and a harness buckle were also recovered here. Three metapodia of a young lamb/kid were found in Grave 4 between the knees of the deceased while head remains of possibly the same animal were deposited near the dead man's skull. Grave 6 contained bones from disarticulated cattle skeletons, some of them belonging to a cow of ca. 110-115 cm tall at the withers. These skeletal remains fit well within our existing knowledge of Avar Period animals.
