h century Szeged. The wholesaler company was trading with products of beer companies based in the capital and with wines from the Great Plain region for a period of roughly 60 years after 1885. Beside archival and press sources private correspondences, objects, documents and photos provided source for this study. Besides recollections of the descendants and relatives, contemporary photos taken by the members of the Hungarian Collectors' Club for Beer-industry Articles completed the sources. As a result we can outline the rise of the poor ethnic German Hutter family to the upper middle class of Szeged. 329
