After the Hungarian War of Independence (1848/49) they moved to the United States and were acting there for the benefit of the Hungarians. They sponsored the construction of several buildings in Csongrád and Békés County as well as in the USA, where they are still highly respected. Their charity activity was also well known. The American writers, Susan Glaspell and Alice French acknowledged their activity in their books. They sponsored the enlargement of the primary school building in Horgos, the village which was founded by the Kárász family (Szeged). The building originally functioned as an orphanage. They sponsored the budding of a Catholic church in Mezőberény, together with schools and manors in Békés County.
