FERENC BERNÁTSKY ELECTIONS FOR THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY IN HÓDMEZŐVÁSÁRHELY IN 1922 The elections for the national assembly were organised according to the act of vote linked with the name of Bethlen. This decree had narrowed down the number of those with the right of vote compared to the regulation elaborated by the Friedrich government. While on nation wide level the decrease was 24%, in Hódmezővásárhely it was more than 38%. Similarly to the elections in 1920, the town was divided into two election districts. Both candidates of the governing party (Christian-SmallholdersAgricultural workers and Bourgeois Party, shortly Unified Party), who were successful in the elections of 1920 entered for the election again. In electoral district I prime minister count István Bethlen, while in electoral district II historian Lajos Szádeczky entered the elections. Count István Bethlen won the elections against lawyer Géza Vekerdy, born in Hódmezővásárhely, entering with a program independent from parties. However, the candidate of the Hungarian Social Democratic Party, Ferenc Szeder, defeated Lajos Szádeczky. Although Ferenc Szeder won the elections also in Békéscsaba, so he gave up his seat in Hódmezővásárhely. The mid-term elections were held on 28-29th August. Four candidates entered the elections: Béla Kun (with a Christian smallholders' program independent of parties), József Takács (Hungarian Social Democratic Party), László Budaváry (Party of National Unity), Dezső Lázár (Christian-Smallholders-Agricultural Workers and Bourgeois Party). The mid-term elections were won by József Takács before Béla Kun, Dezső Lázár coming on the third, László Budaváry on the fourth place. Although since Takács did not manage to win the absolute majority needed for the seat, on 3-4th September another election was held between him and Béla Kun. In this election Béla Kun won the seat hands down, since in the previous election those supporting Lázár and Budaváry this time voted for him. Thus in the National Assembly between 1922-1926 count István Bethlen and Béla Kun represented the citizens of Hódmezővásárhely. Béla Kun (Nagyvárad, today Oradea, in Romania, 3. November 1878. -Hódmezővásárhely, 12. May 1954) - newspaper editor, publisher. A member for Hódmezővásárhely during 5 periods between 1910-18 and 1922-1939 under the colours of different parties.
