PÉTER ERDÉLYI THE DIARY OF ISTVÁN LUDOVAI, AN ENGINEER-SMALLHOLDER-POLITICIAN OF THE TOWN CSONGRÁD, FROM THE YEAR 1903 István Tóth Ludrovai (1846-1923) was the engineer of the town and the politician of the Independence Party of 1848. As an engineer, he was responsible for the construction of the dike, the implementation of flood prevention measures and the making of land surveys. As a local politician he was the main campaigner of the candidate for the position of the representative of the Independence party, and he was elected as the head judge of the settlement on two occasions. The diary, composed in about 1903, sheds light primarily on the activities of the vineyard owner who operated on 36 Hungarian acres of land. The document, written in strict organisation and brief simplicity, makes reports about weather, organisation, agricultural work, daily expenses and incomes, market and commercial data, as well as - rather briefly - events about his public and personal life. The diary can be used as a source of history about the economy and mentality based on the information it provides. At the same time it can be of certain use to local historians and researchers of folklore. 35 Csongrád Megyei Levéltár Csongrádi Levéltára.
