In our century these things were usually purchased in shops, at markets, and thus the number of hemp-growers was decreasing. Only farmers owning large areas of land staked out certain areas for such purposes, because the amount of corn grown made it necessary to replace the used up sacks and covers. Thus, at this time hemp-growing was made necessary by the needs of agriculture, which belongs to the activities of men. 42
