The animal remains from the Avar cemetery at Felgyő, Ürmös-tanya

410 KÖRÖSI Andrea MORTALITY AND TIME OF THE FUNERAL Most of the animal bones in the Felgyő cemetery came from adult, fully grown individuals. Only eight animals represented juvenile individuals. The limbs of six domestic hens were not entirely ossified, meaning that these individuals were 3-3.5 months old when they were slaughtered. The time of the funeral containing these remains can thus be put around late summer or early autumn (August-September). The sheep skull too came from a young, 8-9 months old individual, suggesting that the burial took place in autumn, around October-November (Table 9).
