Anikó Kovács-Krassói - Konstantin Medgyesi What do they think? Museum, Image and the Y-generation What do they think? Museum, Image and the Y-generation The Museum-image of Students Attending the Course Entitled "Museum-visitors" Anikó Kovács-Krassói - Konstantin Medgyesi Authors of present study conduct several research projects analysing the image of museums as pubic collections and institutions, as secondary school and university students see them. These projects aim at answering the question what images young generations have about museums, and how this image has been formed throughout the years. It also intends to reveal the elements of museum-brands, and what specific factors have influenced this particular image to be born. It may be stated that younger generations have a rather old-fashioned image about museums. Consequently, the question rises: how this out-of-date idea reflecting a previous period of museology still rules. In the autumn of 2013, thanks to the cooperation between the Móra Ferenc Museum and the University of Szeged, a course entitled "Museum-visitors” was launched. During the 12 weeks of the semester, university students visited the exhibitions in the museum, listened to presentations, could experience museum life and had an insight in the thematic selections. They were to write a discursive essay about their experiences during the course, how their idea about the museum as a public collection changed during the course. The ideas of the students reveal a good deal about the museum image of their generation, at the same time providing guidelines for its improvement. 572
