Zombori István: Foreign Peoples – Hungariasn (Geographical and Folkloric References of Gedeon Ács’s Diary)

In Gedeon Ács's diary the successive parts are not in connection with one another. Parts wirtten daily from separate units. If he read about a completely different thing the next day, he would write about thatthing. This parts with folkloric references can also be found rhapsodically as regards to both chronology and topic. This study deals with the parts belonging to a certain topic systematically. First it presents foreign, later Hungarian references. Mention must be made of the fact that the folkloric descriptions do not occur in the diary according to the modern, strict criteria of folklore. Historical descriptions, linguistics, psychology and art-history are mixed in them. With all this they mean valuable data to the experts and interesting reading to the public. This study can be regarded as an extension of another study by the same author „America in the Last Century -Through Hungarian Eyes" — which appeared in the Yearbook of Ferenc Móra Múzeum (№1 1976/77, pp. 325—363.) 231
