Kiss Gábor - Zágorhidi Czigány Balázs: Antecedents of the settlement history of region Őrség (County Vas)
KISS GABOR - ZAGORHIDI CZIGANY BALAZS separated from the earlier, much more extended part of the border protecting system (the so- called gyepű) belonging to County Vas, where the descendants of the former guards were able to preserve their privileges up to the 17th century. Naturally, Zala river’s section north from the border of the county belonged to it. Originally, at least partly, it was controlled by the guards of the source of Zala (1364: Zalafewewr). This territory also included the lower sections of springs Kerka and Kerca/Kercsica, where the Kerka and Kercsica guards (1208: speculatorum Kurcité) used to live and serve. However, the valley of spring Monyorósd and the settlement of Lövő=archer (today Zalalövő) preserving the name of the former border guard unit did not belong to the territory in question. We hope that one day our chronology of settlement history shortly presented above and based on historic, linguistic and topographic data will be justified also by archaeological evidence!
