Czeglédi Imre: Munkácsy családjának eredete. Hagyomány és valóság

Czeglédi Imre to Hungary from Tyrol, to manage construction works in Sóvár, then he enlisted in the salt office where he became a principal salt officer. In this study, the author states that Ignác Lieb, the real grandfather to Munkácsy could not come to Hungary as an engineer because he already went to high school in Igló, Hungary, then, at 21, he became a clerk at the salt office. Concerning more appearances of the alleged grandfather's family (e.g. those of his alleged brother), the author states that it is not Munkácsy’s brothers but Ignác Liebs’s children and their descendants who are involved. In its turn, the descent of Ignác Lieb is not researchable because, on the occasion of his marriage, instead of his parents’ names, the note “unknown parents” is recorded in the birth register. Summarizing the research, it can be stated that, on the evidence currently available, neither the descent from Bártfa nor that from Tyrol can be proven. This does not mean that there is no reality behind the tradition, it is only that or present knowledge does not allow to find the truth out. 178
