Restoration of Török-halom kurgan near Kétegyháza - Ildikó Nagy Resume For thousands of years, the kurgans (or tumuli) have been prominent mounds in the lowland landscape of the Great Hungarian Plain. Since they have considerable cultural historical, archaeological and botanical value, an effort should be made to preserve them. Unfortunately, most of them have been thoroughly destroyed by intensive farming. There are several kurgans in a protected area at Kígyósi-puszta. Due to their protected status, a significant part of them have been preserved to this day. Törökhalom kurgan, however, has been falling into ruin since the 1960s. Therefore, the manager of the protected area, the Board of Directors of Körös-Maros National Park, felt the time had come to restore the barrow. The restoration work was carried out between July 15 and September 10, 2011. In addition to a general characterization of the kurgans, my thesis examines the process of restoring Török-halom kurgan near Kétegyháza. Before the barrow could be restored and returned to its original size and shape, the geographical environment had to be surveyed and the condition of Törökhalom kurgan had to be assessed. I considered it important to ascertain how the bar- row had deteriorated. Finally, the detailed technical and biological restoration provides us with a complete picture of the history of Török-halom kurgan. Nagy Ildikó H-1075 Budapest, Kazinczy u. 9.
