Kecskeméti Tibor: A 60 éves Szakáll Sándor köszöntése
The greeting of the 60-year-old Sándor Szakáll 13 research on the history of science, he writes many books on collecting-techniques. He publishes his results in foreign scientific journals. He obtains academic degrees. He maintains relations with both the national and foreign experts and institutions. He takes study tours and gives conference presentations in many continents such as Europe, America, and Asia. He takes part in the work of the Hungarian Geological Society, where he is the president of the Section of Mineralogy and Geochemistry since 2012. His life’s work would not be complete without highlighting the most important part of it: teaching. Firstly, he was guest a lecturer, in 2002 he became an associate professor, and since 2004 he is the head of the Mineralogy and Petrology Department of Miskolc University. For many years, he was a guest lecturer in Babe§-Bolyai University in Cluj- Napoca, Romania. For his efforts, just like in folk tales, the good carried off the prize. As I was writing these lines, I read in the newspaper that “Sándor Szakáll got Móra Ferenc Prize for his outstanding achievement in mineralogical museology.” When I was thinking about Sanyi’s career, a Vitruvius quotation came to my mind that was often mentioned by my former Latin teacher: “Neque ingenium sine disciplina, aut disciplina sine ingenio perfectum doctorem potest efficere” (Vitruvius, De archit. 1) “Neither natural ability without instruction nor instruction without natural ability can make the perfect artist! ” As for Sándor Szakáll, both abilities are absolutely present. My dear Minerophil friend, I wish you more happy birthdays to be able to unravel more secrets of the beautiful world of minerals. Your Paleo-ffiend Tibor Kecskeméti
