A Miskolci Herman Ottó Múzeum Közleményei 10. (Miskolc, 1972)
COMMUNICATIONS OF THE HERMAN OTTÓ MUSEUM, MISKOLC CONTENTS It is issue No 10 of the series called Communications of the Herman Ottó Museum at Miskolc that our Readers have at hand. Like the former ones, this is also to publish communications from thé field of archeology, history, ethnography, just as talks on our extramural cultural activities. Our opening treatise reviews the first ten volumes, the development and present stage of the Miskolc literary monthly „Napjaink" (i. e. „Our Days"). This time we publish two articles of archeology only, • one of them giving some newer data to the archeologlcal topography of the county BorsodAbaúj-Zemplén, while the other publishes a letter of great interest and dating back to the „heroic age" of the study of caves in the Bükk mountain. The articles of our history column first introduce the transactions of Ottó Herman (our Museum's denominator) as he bought a building site and a house in Lillafüred, then you find those on the matters as follows: the „Pietá" in village Tarcal; the architectural history of a Miskolc manor-house built in 1783; the gold treasury hidden in the ground in village Ziliz (county Borsod) in 1799; journeys from Miskolc to town Pest in the 19th century done by foot, on carts, on mail coaches and 'by the train. We publish some newer data on the hiding stay in the village Tardona (county Borsod) of Mór Jókai, the famous Hungarian writer, in the middle of the 19th century; an article on postal carriage by train in the 19th century. Then you find two historicalphilological pieces: one is to deal with the loanwords in the line of iron manufacture at Ózd (county Borsod) and the other introduces two pieces of common sayings used in town Miskolc. Finally we give an account on ancient journalist 3, editors at Miskolc and on sporting life in College at Sárospatak. The column of ethnographical publications is to be considered a rich one, too. In contains an article on the 18th century service agreement contract of a Ziliz (county Borsod) landlord with three Tiszakeszi (also county Borsod) shepherds, in which they agreed on holding a föld of sheep for three years. You get articles on themes as follows: making „bocskor" (e. i. poor men's sandals) in village Karcsa (county Zemplén) ; local practice of working up fruits in Hegyköz (county Zemplén) ; a blacksmith shop decorated with artisans' tools in village Szinpetri (county Borsod) ; am ornamental locker made in the 18th century in village Mecenzéf and later on carried to Miskolc; the' Rákóczi traditions living among the peoples of Sub-Carpathia; and at last: a children's play acted by the help of small stones and pebbles. We present you four articles on the public education activity of our Museum Organisation: we make our Reader acquainted with our Exhibitions in 1971, documenting our professional work; we appreciate the activity commenced two years ago by the professional classrooms for studying history at different schools; we present to you the Knowledge of Your Country Clubs working in Sátoraljaújhely (county Zemplén) and Ózd (county Borsod). At the end our present isue writes about 4 pieces of ethnographical publications edited in Slovakia, so we presume to follow with attention the scientific works of our neighbours.
