MYTHS AND LEGENDS FROM BODROGSZENTES (Abstract) The article contains some of the short stories of István Szűrös, a 68 year-old herd. They are folk legends about history, about the Genesis and the origins, legends, myths about different beliefs. They were recorded in 1964 in the southeastern part of Czechoslovakia, in Bodrogszentes (PleSany) village, where Hungarian language is used. The topics and the characters of the 18 short stories are: No. 1. Attila, king of the Huns gets hold of God's sword and becomes undefeatable. A herdsman finds the magic sword and gives it to Attila. No. 2. The invadors of the Mongol-Tartarian invasion kill a father fleeing with his children. One of the sons gets to a marshy shelter. A dog carries him food. The boy grows up and becomes an excedingly strong lad. He defeats all his enemies. Because of his strange shelter he is called the Man of the Fields. After the Tartarian invasion a priest succeeds in calling back the lad to his nation, the Hungarians. He becomes a great hero. No. 3. Since that time the crack can be seen on the horn called Lehel's horn, and of which the tradition holds that it was the very horn of the myths. No. 4. It tells the story how Mathias was elected a king. First he is the servant of a peasant. In the meantime the king is to be elected. Mathias tells his master that he is to go to the election since he is the elected person. His master does not belive. A miracle (the stick, with which they clean the plough flourishes) persuades him, and they go to the election. The magical crown thrown to the air flyes onto Mathias' head. The lords must consenst to God's will. No. 5. King Mathias, wandering in the country in disguise, becomes the guest of a head shepherds (bacsu). They eat the meal, according to the tradition of shepherds, from the same dish. Mathias makes a mistake in the regulation of eating and the shepherd reprimands him. He refers to the law given by Mathias, himself. Mathias tells who he is and conforms the 19. Számos párhuzam Balassa Iván és Szabó Lajos idézett mondakötetében.
