Gezeichent durch Maria Joseph Peschka — miskolci kamarai tervrajzok, 1773 239 GEZEICHENT DURCH MARIA JOSEPH PESCHKAPLANS FOR THE CHAMBERS OF MISKOLC, 1773 AN ADVANCE STUDY FOR A NEW URBAN HISTORY EXHIBITION In 1755, the market town of Miskolc came under seigneury again, namely the jurisdiction of the dominion of Diósgyőr. In the second half of the 18th century the royal chamber founded multiple institutions, authorities and businesses in the city, all of which needed a head office building. Therefore in 1773, Marie Joseph Peschka, one of the architects of the Chamber of Zips, which resided in Kaschau (Kassa, Kosice), made plans for multiple chamber buildings for Miskolc; these plans are currently kept in Romania, part of the Orczy-collection of the Arad County Library (Biblioteca judeteaná ’Alexandru D. Xenopol’, Arad). Peschka designed an elegant building for the fiscals of the dominion of Diósgyőr, however that did not come to realization; although they did rebuild the taverns “Schwarzer Adler” (Black Eagle) and “Hirsch” (Stag) based on his plans, since both were handled by the chamber at the time. The currently published plans are not only an excellent source for the high standards of chamber architecture of the era, but also for the 18th century townscape of Miskolc.
