Miskolc NEW DATA ABOUT THE OLD GREEK CATHOLIC CHURCH OF GÖRÖMBÖLY Keywords: Miskolc-Görömböly, Greek Catholic Church, Abbey of Tapolca, bishop of Munkács (Mukacheve, Ukraine) András Bacsinszky, master builder János Kun One of the oldest Greek Catholic communities of the historical Borsod county is to be found today at Miskolc-Görömböly. The settlement, which was the property of the Abbey of Tapolca, was settled with Ruthenian serfs in 1712, who soon erected a wooden church for themselves. After 1776, the Greek Catholic bishop of Munkács (Mukacheve, today Ukraine) was the patron of the abbey. Bishop András Bacsinszky erected a new, stone church for the community between 1800 and 1805. The new edifice developed serious static problems within a few years time. János Kun, a master builder from Miskolc designed the plans for the strengthening of the structure, and also surveyed the entire building at the time. The stone church needed to be dismantled after the earthquake in 1834, however, with the help of the recently found drawing of Kun, and of the records of canonic visitations, we may still have an idea about the architectural structures of the former church.
