Frisnyák Sándor: Adalékok a Gödöllői-dombság történeti földrajzához (Tájhasználata 18-19. században)

DATA TO THE HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY OF THE GÖDÖLLŐ HILLS (LAND-USE IN THE 18TH-19TH CENTURIES) Land use is an umbrella term encompassing the use of the natural resources and various human activities (subsistence systems). Land-use in the Gödöllő Hills during the 18th— 19th centuries (and earlier periods) took two main forms: arable farming and woodland economy. Farming transformed the environment since the work of successive generations turned it into a cultural landscape. The extent and techniques of land-use were obviously interrelated with macro-economic tendencies. It efficiency was influenced by the environmental conditions, the human resources and various economic factors. The land-use patterns across this roughly 470 km 2 large hilly area varied from settlement to settlement in spite of structural similarities and basic subsistence practices (e.g., there were differences in the yields per cadastral acre). Changing patterns of land-use in space and time reflect both modes of human adaptation and the impact of human activities on the landscape. Sándor Frisnyák
