Dénes György: A Bódvaszilasi-medence 700 éves története (Borsodi Kismonográfiák 16. Miskolc, 1983)

scholarly work is aimed at the rescue of the historical, ethnographical and other treasures of the basin's past. The area now looks quite different. Streets of spacious, new houses, with modern furnishings and household goods, are characteristic of the villages. The evergrowing number of personal cars, wine-cellars and week-end houses reflects the standard of living where, a few decades ago, people lived in abject poverty. The settlements of the Bódvaszilas basin are now celebrating the 700th anniversary of the first written document mentioning their names but this region has been inhabited without a break for at least one thousand years. The festival now offers an opportunity to piece together the history of man in this area. 153
