RÉGÉSZET - Tóth Zsolt: Régészeti kutatások Sopianae északi temetőjében: az I. számú Cella Trichora 2013–2014. évi kutatásának eredményei

A Janus Pannonius Múzeum Évkönyve ( 2017 ) 304 Archaeological investigations of the Northen cemetery of Sopianae : results of the researches from 2013–2014 of the Cella Trichora No. I Zsolt Tóth ?e Cella Trichora No. 1 is the building from Roman times with the longest „life time” in the northern cemetery of Sopianae . ?e latest modification and enlargement of the protection building of the relic originally excavated in 1922 needed a small-scale archaeological research and supervision. Comparing the results of this research to the results of earlier researches carried out on the building and its proximity helped clarifying the controversial issues. ?e three excavated graves surrounded by slabs of stone are similar to those found in the narthex earlier. Since they were dug into a Roman destruction layer, they are indisputably medieval. ?e demolished wall foundation is demonstrably from the Carolingian Era. ?is is the first, identified Carolingian relic from the area of Eastern Transdanubia. In the Carolingian Era, a settlement was established in the Early Christian cemetery; the building was renovated and served as a church. West-Northwest of the Cella Trichora , a building with stone foundation was erected which was build against the Cella Trichora as well. ?e renovated building also served as a church in the Hungarian Middle Ages, until the end of the 15 th Century. As this is the only (known) well preserved building suitable for a church in the centre of the Bishopric See at the beginning of the Árpád Era, this building may even have been consecrated as the first, temporary cathedral in 1009.
