A Janus Pannonius Múzeum Évkönyve ( 2017 ) 118 Landscape history of Drava oxbows in the last 50 years Adrienne Ortmann-né Ajkai – Anita Kovács – Dénes Lóczy Results of wetland rehabilitation projects can significantly be influenced by spontaneous background processes as sedimentation or change in land-use. Sedimentation of Drava oxbows has been studied by comparing aerial photographs from the 1970s to current satellite images. ?ree history types can be differentiated. ?e most common use is for angling by local people, when manual removal of vegetation effectively limits sedimentation. ?e development of tourism can result in the extension of open water areas. Lack of management can lead to well-observable loss of open water. ?is last scenario is especially possible at backwaters in the active floodplains, under the protection of Danube–Drava National Park, raising attention to the fact that with ‘passive’ management the existing conservational values cannot be held.
